What we think
Today's Marketplace Over 90% of world trade is carried by the international shipping industry; without shipping, the import and export of goods on the scale demanded by the modern world would not be possible. There are around 50,000 merchant ships trading internationally, transporting every kind of cargo, registered in over 150 nations and manned by over a million seafarers of virtually every nationality.
The expansion of seaborne trade with emerging markets such as China and India has meant a continuous rise in the worldwide demand for shipping services. This increased demand, coupled with the growing efficiency of shipping as a mode of transport, means that the prospects for further growth in the industry continue to be strong.
Issues and Challenges
Shipping is faced with all sorts of issues and challenges and many of these relate to fuel. Whether it be the latest SECA zone enforcements, supply shortages, price fluctuations or changes in ISO grade specifications, the Geos Group is uniquely positioned to help and advise clients on all the options available.
The Environment
Shipping is one of the least environmentally damaging forms of commercial transport and, compared with land-based industry, is a comparatively minor contributor to marine pollution from human activities. There has been a substantial reduction in marine pollution over the last 15 years, especially with regard to the amount of oil spilled into the sea, despite a massive increase in world seaborne trade.
The Geos Group is aware of its environmental impact and responsibilities and takes great care to advise clients and reduce its own carbon footprint. We are partnered with an ethical and reliable UK-based offsetting provider, Carbon Offsets Ltd.
Our Clients
We work hard to build up close working relationships with our clients, based on respect and trust. Increasingly, we find that clients are looking for a proactive fuel supply partner that can give expert advice and provide a complete service tailored to their individual needs. The Geos Group is uniquely positioned to offer this, and continues to build on its reputation in the industry as a valued partner.
